OLWEUS BULLYING PREVENTION PROGRAM

We are very proud to be a part of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program that is a community wide program in Grimshaw. All of our staff have been trained and maintain the program to reduce bully/victim problems, prevent new bully-victim problems, improve peer relations and improve school climate. Below is our Discipline Rubric for Bullying and our School Rules against Bullying.

ELECTRONICS REVISED SCHOOL POLICY

Cellular Telephones:

Cell phones are allowed on school property but must not enter the classroom. They are to be left in the student’s backpack and are to be turned off.

Other Personal Electronic Devices (Gameboys, MP3 Players etc.)
These devices serve no educational purpose.
Students are not to bring these devices on to school property without permission from a teacher (teachers should inform the office when students will be having electronic devices in the school).

Rationale For This Policy
  • Cell phones do provide a means of communication between the home and the student while the student is coming to and leaving the school property. However, parents have ample means of contacting the student during school hours without the necessity of a cell phone in class.
  • Personal electronic devices are being misused (students are playing games/music in class, taking inappropriate pictures and videos, using them to cheat on exams, etc.).
  • Other schools have seen an increase in theft of these devices and we do not want to see an increase here.

Penalties For Not Following This Policy
First Offense: device confiscated and returned to the student at the end of the day.
Second Offense: device confiscated and a parent/guardian must make arrangements to collect the device.
Third Offense: device confiscated and returned after one month.

DRESS POLICY

Parents are urged to see that their children are dressed suitably for all school activities. Clothing should be comfortable, attractive, and as clean as possible.

Gentlemens' Code - hats are not worn inside the school.

In an endeavor to keep our school neat and tidy, we insist that students remove their outside shoes upon entering the building. They therefore need a second pair of shoes to be worn inside the building (these may be their gym shoes).

Also note that gym shoes cannot have soles that will leave marks on our floors.

COMPUTER USEAGE
(INCLUDING INTERNET, E-MAIL)

All of Kennedy’s computers are connected to a Local Area Network. To access computer use a student must have and use a unique username and password. Students are given their username and password only after the student and their parent have signed a Network Acceptable Use Agreement which states that the student will follow the network “rules of use”.

These forms are completed once at the time of registration with the school or when the child moves to grade one from Kindergarten. Students who abuse their network privileges will be disciplined through temporary or permanent restriction of computer access privileges. Computer use by students is supervised and monitored.
